When you need a friend of the feline (or canine) kind…

When my 16 year old Maine Coon cat died last fall, I was devastated.  Mr Mitzi had been an important part of my family — comforting, entertaining and amusing us with his playful, affectionate antics. How I missed waking in the night to find him snuggled up next to me.  I was certain that I wanted another cat… another Maine Coon kitten.

Maine Coon cats are large cats with soft full coats.  They tend to be very affectionate, smart and playful.  They show such engaging behaviors like looking you in the eye, coming when you call and meeting you at the door at the end of the day.

I had no idea how I would find a Maine Coon kitten in the middle of November.  I located a breeder but the cost was prohibitive.  Searching around on the internet, I found the answer.

You enter your search criteria and when a matching pet is found, you get an email.  I responded to several emails and each time, the kitten had just been adopted.  Until one lucky day, I got an email about a Maine Coon kitten in a high kill shelter in Kentucky.  It seemed a bit far away, but I replied and learned that for a moderate fee, the kitten could ride on a transport vehicle to a location about 1 hour away from my home in central Vermont.

During this period of waiting, I heard repeatedly the adage — “Two is better than one.”  I did some research and learned that two litter mate kittens require less attention, play time with their human and, overall, simply adjust better to new surroundings.  It sounded like a great idea to me.

I contacted the shelter and asked about litter mates. They were happy to place another kitten with me and the transport company agreed to bring them both to me for one fee.  On December 2, 2011, I brought home Merlin the Magnificat and Gwenddydd the Splenddydd.

What a delight they are and how they have grown!!

Freebies for the Mind and Soul

I would like to share with you today one of my favorite websites.

ChristopherWestra.com

You can check out his ebooks  as well as sign up for his free newsletter.

I have been enjoying Chris’ newsletter for years. His focus is on mental and spiritual development as well as healthy living in the body.  Very often he sends an offer for a free ebook or audio recording.  As a matter of fact, he gave so much stuff away for free that he set up an entire website to organize and provide easy access to them.

You are what you think !
In the early 1900’s there was an impressive movement to understand how our habits of thought affected the events of our lives.  Many authors emerged and created books and articles that are just as pertinent today as they were then.

Have you heard of James Allen? Wallace D Wattles? Genevieve Behrend? William Walker Atkinson? Their works still ring true today.  You will find them and many more in ebook and audio form on Christopher’s website.   You will also find any contemporary works in many forms — ebooks, audios, movies, tests, puzzles, interesting websites and much, much more… all for free.

Check It Out !!
